LFO to première Simul certāminis invicem accidit in April 2014

London Firebird Orchestra will give the première of my orchestral work Simul certāminis invicem accidit (2014) as part of a concert in the Ricketts Quadrangle at Middlesex University (Hendon) on Thursday 10th April 2014 at 7.30pm. This piece makes use of the venue (pictured on the right) in the!...

The première will be conducted by François Evans.

Earlier today Sonus Repercussus (2013) played by James McVinnie was recorded by BBC Radio 3 at the BBC Singers / Choir & Organ Showcase event and concert held at St Paul's Knightsbridge.

Roland Leighton's First World War poetry

The Blood of Sunset (2013-14) is the prelude of a much larger project to set the works of Roland Leighton in an extensive cycle [title TBC], set for completion in early 2015. The 2-movements of The Blood of Sunset use two of Roland Leighton's poems.

Gabriel Keen workshops Exspiravit Resonare in Middlesex University event

Gabriel Keen, a pianist who is equally at home with
contemporary classical music and jazz improvisation, workshopped Exspiravit Resonare (2013) [listed on the image to the right as 'New Work'] on 28th November 2013 in an event that was part of Middlesex University's 2013/14 Concerts & Colloquia series.

Gabriel studied at Dartington College of Arts and London College of Music, and at Dartington summer school with Milton Babbitt and Martin Butler. His collaboration with Bernard Pulham on the piano duet version of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring this year (in celebration of the work's centenary) has resulted
in performance at the City Lit and release on CD.

 

 

 

James McVinnie to perform London premiere of Sonus Repercussus

James McVinnie and the BBC Singers will feature the six compositions of Choir & Organ's 2013 New Music series in a free concert on 28th January 2014, 4pm at St Paul's Knightsbridge. This will be the London premiere of Sonus Repercussus which won the the 2013 Choir & Organ Composition Competition, in partnership with St Albans International Organ Festival. The concert will be recorded by BBC Radio 3 with a view to future broadcast.

Details of how to apply for the free tickets will be given in the Jan/Feb 2014 issue of Choir & Organ magazine (and will also appear on this website in due course).

 

 

Diadem to be premiered in 2013 Service of Nine Lessons and Carols

Choir & Organ Composition Competition / St Albans International Organ Festival 2013

Sonus Repercussus has won the 2013 Choir & Organ Composition Competition, in partnership with St Albans International Organ Festival.

The work was inspired by large acoustic spaces … homophonic passages alternate with contrasting multi-section episodes which vary in character and texture in a quasi-rondo form. James McVinnie will give the world premiere in St Albans Cathedral on Saturday 20 July, during the Prizewinners Concert of St Albans International Organ Festival 2013.

 

 

Allegri String Quartet to premiere The Morning River Glideth on 21st May 2013

The Allegri String Quartet have selected The Morning River Glideth for inclusion in their free lunch-time concert at Middlesex University (Hendon Campus) on 21st May 2013.

Programme c.45mins in duration, including Janáček's 1st string quartet 'Kreutzer Sonata'.

 

 

North London Chorus to premiere Holmfirth on 29th June 2013

March 2013

 

Holmfirth has been confirmed as part of North London Chorus' summer concert programme for 29th June 2013.

This follows workshopping of the piece during two sessions at the choir's residential weekend that took place in Buckinghamshire in early Feburary 2013.
